In functionalist perspective gender roles contribute to social relations. Lastly, functionalism is a relationship the parts of every society, like how aspects of society are adaptive or functional. Symbolism is uses of symbol in personal interaction, a symbol and details of everyday life. This theory has been criticized for reifying gender roles. Functionalism and conflict theory are macro theories which try to explain how societies work. Conflict is described as competition for insufficient resources it’s how the elite society control the weak and the poor. These division of labor are very efficient because create a maximum use of resources. Structural Functionalism: an outgrowth of Durkheims theory of organic solidarity, predicts that more demanding jobs will be paid higher wages than less demanding jobs Conflict Theory: derives from Marxist theory, Struggles between interest groups drive social change over time. Just as structural functionalism was criticized for focusing too much on the stability of societies, conflict theory has been criticized because it tends to focus on conflict to the exclusion of recognizing stability. Also, it is viewed as a social system where particulars segments are responsible for specific labor acts. Gender differences are viewed from functionalism as an efficient way to create divisions and specializing of cooperative labour into specifically circumscribed tasks and roles. Knowing this, How different structural functionalism views gender than conflict theory does in a society? One of them is that structural functionalism sees society as a complex system, that permit it to interact cohesively, and looks society as a macro-level orientation while the conflict theory focuses on the social system that only work for a select few of society and is known because the struggle for dominance among social groups that compete for scarce resources. Structural functionalism and conflict theory have some different points of view.
